CASE STUDY
rjc
5 year old female
Dx: Autism

Initial observation by mother and neurotherapist:
  • No eye contact
  • Garbled words
  • Screaming fits
  • Only ate about three different kinds of food
  • No use of eating utensils
  • Throws cups after drinking from them
  • No interest in toys or books at all
  • Would sit and say “eh” or “mama” constantly
  • Always hyperventilated (breathing heavily)
  • Always stripping down (removing all clothing)
  • Wouldn’t allow hair to be brushed

This child presented with her single mom who is a dairy farmer by trade. Rjc spent her days with her mother in the barn usually having screaming fits most of the day. She would constantly remove her clothing no matter the weather or temperature. Her eating habits were sporadic as well as only a few choice foods. She ate with her hands and fingers and often choked from her drink. Her language was garbled and difficult to understand. She used approximately eight to twelve words. She would often sit in a fetal position rocking and chanting “mama” or “eheh”. Although her mother provided toys and other visual and tactile stimulation the child showed no interest. Hygiene was difficult and she was not aware of urination or bowel movements when they occurred.
